The production of stainless steel seamless pipes in China started earlier. In 1955, Anshan Iron and Steel Seamless Steel Tube Works first produced 18-8 chrome-nickel stainless steel seamless pipes. In 1957, it began to produce cold drawn and cold rolled stainless steel seamless pipes. Subsequently, Shanghai Cold Drawn Steel Tube Plant, Chengdu Seamless Steel Tube Plant, Daye Steel Plant and other companies began producing stainless steel seamless tubes. After the 1980s, with the deepening of China's reform and opening up and the rapid economic development, the stainless steel pipe industry accelerated its development. Companies such as the Shanghai No. 5 Steel Plant and the Great Wall Steel Plant made the production of stainless steel seamless pipes through the introduction of foreign advanced production equipment. Capacity, variety, specifications and quality have all been greatly improved.
The production of stainless steel welded pipes in China started late, and the overall technology level is not high, but the development rate is faster. At present, there are more than 400 stainless steel welded pipe production lines in China, but fewer manufacturers are able to produce high-standard industrial stainless steel welded pipes, and most of them use civilian stainless steel welded pipe production.
